The funeral rites of Princess Margaret Mojisola Akingboye, mother of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), a leading contender in the 2024 governorship election, were concluded today, bringing to a close a week-long celebration of her life. The ceremony, which began on Friday 12 April, was a grand affair filled with various traditional and cultural activities.
It kicked off with a service of songs held at the residence of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye at No. 3 Jimba Street, New Garage Okitipupa on Friday. Family, friends and well-wishers gathered to pay their respects and honour the matriarch.
One of the highlights was the traditional Ajabue dance which took place on Tuesday 16 April. This cultural dance, specific to the Owo tribe, added a vibrant and lively atmosphere to the mourning period.
On Thursday 18 April, the body of the deceased was taken from the St. Louis Hospital in Owo to a wake keep where family members and close friends gathered to remember and honour her life.
Today, the funeral concluded with the entrance of Mama’s body into the Redeemed Christian Church of God Pentecostal Mega Cathedral, Ondo 3. The service, which begins at 10am, will be a time for the family and community to come together to say their final farewells and offer prayers for her departed soul.
Following the service, a reception was held at Boje Signature’s on Mydas Km 1 Owo Ikare Expressway, where people had the opportunity to gather, share memories of Mama and offer comfort and support to the grieving family.
