The Ondo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has strongly condemned reports claiming that the party has collapsed its structure in support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued by Hon. Jimmy Akinyan, State Secretary of the Ondo SDP, the party dismissed these claims as “cheap false news” and a “chirade-for-money gimmick.” Akinyan asserted that the individuals involved in the purported structure collapse, including Mr. Tope Ajulo and Dr. Shola Agboola, are not members of SDP and do not represent the party’s interests.
The statement clarified that both Mr. Ajulo, who impersonated to be the State Chairman and Dr. Agboola are clowns and scopists who hacked in the cash out spree Governor Aiyedatiwa is currently doing with the state allocation.
The SDP secretary described the event as a “political scam” aimed at extorting money from “gullible political candidates.” He expressed surprise that Governor Aiyedatiwa and his deputy would “fall victims of the scam.”
Akinyan emphasized that the SDP remains united behind its governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), who they believe will “unseat Mr. Aiyedatiwa at the election in November 2024.”
The party also refuted allegations of negotiating with other parties during election seasons, citing examples from previous elections where the SDP maintained its independence and fielded its own candidates.
This development underscores the complex political dynamics in Ondo State as the November 2024 gubernatorial election approaches, highlighting ongoing tensions and competition among political parties in the region.
