SDP Candidate OBA Receives Rousing Welcome in Okitipupa as Support Base Grows

The political landscape in Ondo State witnessed a significant shift as Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the 2024 gubernatorial elections, received a thunderous welcome in his hometown of Okitipupa.

A large crowd of supporters, including members of the ardent Suainola group (popularly known as Barika), thronged the streets to greet the business mogul and entrepreneur. The event marked a growing momentum for OBA’s campaign, with notable defections from other parties.

In a surprising turn of events, a faction from the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by social critic and former media adviser to the Okitipupa LGA Chairman, Comrade Jide Oladipupo, announced their defection to the SDP. Operating under the banner of Liberty Forum, the group cited their conviction in OBA’s candidacy as the primary reason for their switch.

While OBA engaged with grassroots supporters in Okitipupa, SDP members and new defectors held strategic meetings across the state. In Akure North, the “Women for OBA” group, led by Mrs. Suliman Adesewa, convened to plan their support for the candidate.

Adding to the growing support base, a youth group in Akure has publicly declared their backing for Otunba Akingboye. They highlighted his popularity, consistency, and impressive track record in both business and philanthropy as key factors influencing their decision.

In response to the overwhelming support, OBA reiterated his commitment to “liberating Ondo State from oppressive jackboots,” signaling his determination to bring about significant change if elected.

As the 2024 gubernatorial race heats up, OBA’s growing coalition of supporters from various backgrounds suggests a shifting political landscape in Ondo State. The coming months will likely see intensified campaigning as candidates vie for the state’s top position.
