OBJ Endorses WeAfrica Rice; Lauds Akingboye’s Ondo Gubernatorial Bid, Agricultural Innovation and Political Vision

In a significant endorsement that could impact both Nigeria’s agricultural sector and Ondo State’s political landscape, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has publicly supported WeAfrica Rice, a flagship product of WeAfrica Limited, while also backing Otunba Bamidele Akingboye’s gubernatorial ambitions. This dual endorsement occurred during a pivotal meeting on July 29th at Obasanjo’s Hilton Top residence in Abeokuta.

Obasanjo, drawing on his long-standing relationship with Akingboye, praised the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate’s unwavering commitment to development and public welfare. “I’ve known OBA for decades, even in his youth,” Obasanjo remarked, using Akingboye’s popular acronym. “His passion for development and commitment to the masses’ welfare is unwavering.”

The former president, acknowledging Akingboye’s 24-year aspiration to govern Ondo State, suggested that the time might be ripe for this ambition to materialize. In a show of support, Obasanjo offered prayers for Akingboye’s success in the upcoming 2024 gubernatorial race.

The meeting, which included Akingboye’s running mate, Erelu Gbemisola Shekoni-Alabi, also focused on WeAfrica Limited’s agricultural initiatives. Obasanjo expressed admiration for the company’s vision, particularly its WeAfrica Rice product, emphasizing its potential to address food security, poverty, and hunger across Africa.

“The government should key into Otunba Akingboye’s vision through WeAfrica products,” Obasanjo advised, highlighting the broader implications of supporting local agricultural innovations.

Akingboye, a seasoned businessman with over 41 years of experience, expressed gratitude for Obasanjo’s longstanding support. The former president described Akingboye as “a man of uncompromising integrity with numerous accomplishments and remarkable track records in the business world,” adding weight to both his business ventures and political aspirations.

WeAfrica Rice, positioned as one of Nigeria’s finest locally produced rice brands, stands as a testament to Akingboye’s commitment to quality and health-conscious products. Obasanjo’s endorsement could potentially boost patronage and support for locally produced agricultural goods.

As Nigeria grapples with economic challenges and food security concerns, this endorsement from a former president could catalyze increased interest in both Akingboye’s gubernatorial bid and his agricultural initiatives. The coming months will reveal whether this blend of entrepreneurial spirit and political vision will resonate with the electorate of Ondo State and beyond, potentially influencing both the state’s political future and Nigeria’s approach to agricultural development.
