The Hausa community in Akure, particularly residents of the Shasha area, has made an urgent appeal to Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate for Ondo State, for immediate assistance with their severely deteriorated road infrastructure.
Residents stopped Akingboye’s convoy as it passed near the area, drawing attention to the critical state of their roads. The situation has become so dire that there is effectively no access to Shasha and its cattle market. Sources report that a truck has been stuck in the area for over two days, unable to navigate the treacherous road conditions.
The lack of viable roads has paralyzed economic activities in the area. The once-bustling cattle market now stands empty, with no livestock or goods able to reach it due to the impassable roads. This has severely impacted the livelihoods of local residents and traders.
Community members expressed their frustration with the current administration under Lucky Aiyedatiwa, accusing it of neglecting their basic infrastructure needs. They voiced their support for Akingboye, citing his track record of philanthropy and community development work.
Akingboye, in response, promised to prioritize the area’s infrastructure if elected, stating that such neglect goes against his vision for Ondo State’s development. He assured residents that he would work towards bringing “unprecedented development” to the state.
This incident highlights the severe infrastructure challenges facing some communities in Akure and underscores the growing discontent with the current administration.
