The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State has launched a scathing attack on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, accusing his administration of neglecting critical infrastructure across the state.
In a press release issued Thursday, SDP State Publicity Secretary Oyeniyi Iwakun pointed to the Ondo town stadium as a prime example of what he called “shameful neglect.” The statement came as the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its campaign flag-off event at the facility.
“The stadium’s roof is in disrepair, and the roads leading to it, including those to the General Hospital, are filled with potholes,” Iwakun stated. He questioned how a government “that cannot maintain a stadium roof or repair hospital roads” could claim to serve the people’s interests.
The SDP spokesperson characterized the use of deteriorating facilities for political gatherings as “a slap in the face to Ondo State citizens,” suggesting it exemplifies a disconnect between the APC’s campaign promises and their governance.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s office has not yet responded to requests for comment on these allegations.
The criticism comes amid increasing scrutiny of infrastructure maintenance in Ondo State, with opposition parties ramping up their rhetoric as the state approaches its next election cycle.
